I am looking to see if there is a connection to my 2nd GGFather from Stockport who I found out has a Middle name of Broadhurst – Full Name is: Joseph “Broadhurst” Roylance He Married: Sarah Grimshaw in Manchester Cathedral July 27, 1845, Father was Peter Roylance and Ellen Lee was his Mother, He Immigrated in 1864 to the USA and Settled in Cohoes Albany County NY. No one else has had a Middle Name until they came to America.. So I am assuming it could be from a friend of the Family, not necessarily from a family member. Does anyone know of my Family in Stockport? If so Please Contact me as soon as you can.. I’d love to hear from you.. Oh: John and Charles Radcliffe were their witness’s to the Marriage.. and Joseph and Sarah resided in Droylsden at the time of their Marriage, but resided in Stockport afterward..

My great grandfather,George Henry Broadhurst, married to Annie Jayne Towers, in Congleton Cheshire,they were both on marriage cert as farmworkers. they moved to Stockport, where my grandmother, Edith May was born.

I am trying to find out the reason for my 2nd GGFathers Middle name of BROADHURST!.. He lived in Stockport until Immigrating to the USA In June of 1864.. He was 15 on the 1841 Census for Stockport with Mother Ellen Lee-Roylance and a Sister. He married in 1845 @ Manchester Cathedral and resided in Droylsden at the Time of his Marriage. Full Name: Joseph Broadhurst Roylance. I have been lead to belive that at that time Most English People were not Given Middle Names, I am in a quandry, because I am almost ready to belive he was not a Roylance at all, but could be a Broadhurst.. Any Suggestions.. I’m checking all the Broadhurst’s that I can in the hopes that I can find out where the Middle name came from…

Great Site!! My Broadhurst family left England in 1842 to America on the ship St. Lawrence out of Liverpool. They were all textile mill workers and settled in Philadelphia, and later the youngest, George (my gggrandfather settled in Howard and Montgomery Co, MD. In the 1841 UK Census I found my family of John & Sarah B. with children,Samuel, Elizabeth, John and George in Stockport but no birthplace. I’ve searched all through Lancashire and Cheshire. I need some help finding where born for these kids–George in particular. Any help would be appreciated. GBO

William was the son of John Broadhurst and Martha Rosson and was baptised 4 Aug 1782 in Chelford. John and Martha married 5 Nov 1779 in Prestbury. Siblings for William I have found:
Joseph bap 7 Sep 1777
Mary bap 24 Feb 1788
Thomas bap 16 Jul 1780
John bap 21 Apr 1793, all Chelford . Looking at the dates I suspect there are more children of John and Martha to be found.
